Good to Know
Questions About the Work
When a property needs attention, the questions go beyond the damage you can see. Here’s what to expect with the materials, the belongings inside, the repairs, and the decisions along the way.
How do you know how far the damage goes?
We look beyond the most obvious area. With water damage, that may mean checking moisture behind walls or beneath flooring. After a fire, smoke and soot may have reached rooms away from the flames. What we find determines the scope; we won’t assume the visible damage tells the whole story.
Why would you remove material that looks undamaged?
The surface can look fine while the material behind or beneath it has been affected. Wet drywall, flooring, and other absorbent materials often need to come out, sometimes beyond the visible edge of the damage. We explain what needs removal and why before that work begins.
What happens to my furniture and belongings?
It depends on the item and what happened to it. We can arrange careful packing and storage while work is underway, and assess affected belongings for cleaning or restoration. We’ll discuss the options with you; not every damaged item can be returned to its previous condition.
Do you handle repairs after the cleanup?
Yes. When a project needs both, we can take it from the initial cleanup through reconstruction and repairs. We’ll explain which work is needed now and what comes later, so you have a clear picture of the project rather than a list of disconnected jobs.
What if asbestos or lead is found during the work?
Work on the suspected material should pause until a qualified professional tests it. If the results confirm asbestos or lead-based paint, we can review the findings and arrange the appropriate abatement before the affected repair work continues.
Can I call before I know what insurance will cover?
Yes. We can discuss what the property needs before you have a coverage decision. If you decide to make a claim, you contact your insurer to open it; we can provide information about our work and communicate with the adjuster. Your insurer makes the coverage decision.
